HANDBAG 101 HIGHLIGHTS DANIELLE NICOLE'S "SERENITY"

A unique inspiration story reflects purpose and meaning into the creation of each individual bag. This particular piece called the "serenity" came from an experience I had in Hong Kong, where I was captivated by street style and traditional culture.

I spent two weeks abroad completely on my own searching for new inspiration for the Fall 2011 collection, so I really immersed myself in the everyday style and culture. In observing both street style and what was happening in the marketplace, I became fixated on all of the different feminine details I was seeing. The distinctive characteristic of East meeting West was evident in nearly all the facets of Hong Kong life and they inspired me to fuse the classic delicate features of Asian culture and define them into a modern American translation. For this particular handbag- the Serenity Hobo, I chose this design because it is a timeless and practical shape. The hobo has become a staple shape for the American woman on the go- due to its style and functionality. The material of the bag is influenced by the elements of Asian architecture that symbolize the centuries of history found in China. The organic texture of the bag reflect the grooves found on the roofs of traditional Asian houses. The bows are quintessentially feminine and popular in Asia, but placed in such a way that is sophisticated and novel. Finally, the hand-woven handles were inspired by the Asian ancestral technique of weaving in creating baskets and bags. This also reflects the interwoven nature of Hong Kong's traditional and contemporary culture that is often influenced by western characteristics.

THE MAKING OF DANIELLE NICOLE HANDBAGS: HONG KONG 2011
Here in China, and soon to head to L.A. for market week; then, it's back to New York City!

This year, traveling through Asia, and working with my factories, I wanted to give you a little insight into the process.  Granted, I painted the picture prettier than it really is: there is a lot in between each stage that is just not as fun to see,
But, why should you have to see all of that un-fun stuff?
You deserve the best!
So, I have put together the process of a few bags, just to let you into my world.  Each bag begins with inspiration; what colors are prominent for the season, where do you wear it; what details will be in your outfit this year that you will want it to complement,  what shoes will you be wearing, how will you want your hair/hat?
Then, we spend hours just sketching versions upon versions of the bag, perfecting it, until we are happy with the sketch. We send that to the factory, and get a development sample back.  From there, we tweak it more, we take out what we don't like, and we add more of what we do.

THE MAKING OF:

THE BUCKLE SATCHEL:

I add something more of myself into each bag; something I feel it won't be perfect without.  We source new trims, and hard wear, each season, and try to get the best looking product every time.  There are a lot of bags that fall out because they just don't seem right.  But, what that leaves you with, are only the best; the cream of the crop.

THE BROOKE FAMILY CROSS BODY WITH PUSH-LOCK FLAP CLOSURE:

So, that is what I have put together for you, here, the best of the inspiration, the best sketch, and the best, or almost there, of the closest to the final product we have come to so far.

THE HAMMERHEAD SHOULDER BAG:

THE WHIPSTITCH CLUTCH:

I hope you have enjoyed this little window into my world.  After all, YOU make it all worthwhile.
If you have feedback, just comment, and let me know! I would love to hear from you!

That's about all for now; stay tuned for more from L.A. Market week!

KELSI SMITH IS DEDICATED TO DANIELLE NICOLE!
Well, the Johanna Mini, to be exact.
The famous L.A. blogger rocks this highly versatile bag for the second time,
catering to it's girly feel by pairing it with a floral ruffle dress, and great pop of coral cardigan.
Love the shoes, and the pop of color.  We are sure jealous of what looks like very moderate weather, compared to back in New York, but I will see you soon, to soak up some of those rays myself, Kelsi!
Just as soon as I leave China.... stay tuned for some exciting updates direct from the factories, of new development for Fall 2011!

KELSI SMITH
FOUNDER OF "TWO POINT OH, L.A.",
L.A.'S PREMIERE FASHION BLOGGING COMMUNITY,
SHARES OUR LOVE FOR THE JOHANNA MINI BAG

In anticipation of my upcoming L.A. visit for Fall Market, I sent Kelsi one of our best bags to review.

I love her classic look, paired with these studded boots, and blazer, and that sailor striped T can't be beat, especially when paired with that gorgeous chunky necklace.
I love the Johanna Mini because of this exact ease of use: it is great for evening, but adds the perfect touch for a daytime look, as well. It's small and easy, but adds a jewelry-like touch.

Check it out with studs, as well, for a little more added pizazz.

Read Kelsi's full post, and check out her other posts as well @
and don't miss upcoming Tweets and Facebook posts while I meet up with Kelsi and more talented fashion bloggers in L.A. mid-January!

VISITS THE DANIELLE NICOLE SHOWROOM

We invited mega-star fashion stylist and blogger Keiko Lyn Groves to our showroom for a sneak peak at the upcoming Fall 2011 line.

Keiko is an absolute doll, and I just love how cute she is: styling the Lydia bag with this cozy winter warm coat and feminine ruffled dress; plus those adorable velvet ballerina flats.  Keiko is the master of juxtaposing her gorgeous self with just enough edge while keeping true to her feminine side.  So, check out the posting for yourself @
